Why you should be worried about the world’s top restaurants
The United States could lose its top 10 restaurants by 2021, according to the restaurant industry’s most recent annual report.
The ranking, based on a number of factors including food quality and menu prices, was released Thursday by the American Restaurant Association, the nation’s largest trade group.
“It’s a big step down,” said Richard A. Peebles, a senior vice president at the group.
The association’s annual report shows that in 2020, the top 10 dining destinations were: New York, Miami, Las Vegas, Atlanta, San Diego, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
In 2020, food prices dropped to the lowest levels in decades, according the report.
And the U.S. could lose about 15 of its top 20 restaurants, including the top-ranked Washington, D.C., eatery the Capitol Grill, according a Bloomberg analysis.
That is the same ranking that was used to calculate the 2020 rankings for the top restaurant markets.
A few months ago, the U,S.
economy was in a strong place, Peeples said.
“This is a bad year for business.”
