How to find your next job in Australia’s booming tech sector
Business Insider Australia’s tech sector is booming, with companies looking to fill job vacancies with an influx of skilled workers.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) released the latest quarterly data on job openings across the country on Tuesday, which showed the number of IT jobs jumped by over 2,000 to 8,700 in June.
It’s not all good news though, with the jobless rate across the sector rising to 4.8 per cent.
The ABS also said job vacancies in the IT sector have risen to an average of 2,500 in June, which is still well below the average in the mining and quarrying sector.
But with a growing number of tech jobs being held by foreign nationals, many Australians are wondering what the future holds for their careers.
What is a ‘business’ in the tech sector?
A tech job is a part-time, non-core position.
It requires little or no training and a minimum salary of $20,000 per annum.
The job is typically in a digital and mobile technology sector and is usually paid from the start of the project.
There are many different types of tech roles, but the most common are sales, operations and support roles.
There are also roles in digital marketing, human resources, digital development, data science and more.
A job description from the Australian Institute of Career Development outlines how a tech job fits in to a company’s overall culture: “Tech jobs are often a bridge to the wider tech industry, providing a new perspective on how the company operates, as well as the opportunity to build a network of skills and knowledge in the industry.”
It’s an industry that’s booming, but what do you need to know about it?
For a more detailed breakdown of what a tech role entails, Business Insider spoke to a range of different experts to find out what they know about the industry.
Here are some of the things we learned:What is an IT job?
An IT job is any kind of IT role that involves coding, testing and maintenance of computer systems.
In many cases, it’s not even required to be a coding position.
In some cases, the job involves performing work for other people, such as a sales associate or a project manager.
There’s also a role for people who use their skills for a different purpose than the core function of the company.
Many tech jobs require a bachelor’s degree.
Many are also designed to train people to become developers.
For the most part, these jobs require an average to high level of education, but some can be higher.
For example, a software developer could get a degree in computer science, while a software engineer could get an undergraduate degree in mathematics.
It can also be a good idea to study more on the subject, such the subject of IT skills.
A recent study by Australian National University found that those who spent the most time online were most likely to have completed their degree.
What are the job titles?
In most cases, tech jobs are called ‘jobs’ because they involve technical tasks and require people to work independently.
The title of a tech position might also refer to the type of work they perform: a developer, for example.
Here’s a list of the tech job titles that are commonly used in Australia:Developers, Developers, Business Analyst, Technical Engineer, Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, Sales Engineer, Operations Engineer, Business Development Analyst, Business Managing Manager, Marketing Manager, Product Management Manager, Software Developer, Business Sales Manager, Business Management Manager.
What skills do they require?
Most tech jobs also require a minimum level of technical skills.
These include the ability to understand software and develop software.
They also need to be able to write code, use the internet and communicate effectively.
They’re also required to understand how the business works, such how to plan a project, manage people, and be able and willing to make decisions for the company’s future.
A software developer, who is required to work with and learn from other developers, is a very different type of person than the software developer that most people associate with tech jobs.
The software developer may not be the kind of person who enjoys spending time working on a project and is unlikely to take a lot of time off for holidays.
They’re also likely to work in teams, which means they’re more likely to be involved in product development and need to understand the business more than the individual developers.
The skills required for a tech jobs position can also vary across different industries.
For instance, a developer in a software development company might be more likely than one in a hardware manufacturing company to take part in team building.
A sales executive might be less likely than a sales manager to take on any type of project, as they’re generally more focused on their individual jobs.
